Searching for a Ketone Supplement can be challenging if you don’t know what you need. Sure, you know you want an efficient way to get into Ketosis, but is there more than one way to do so? More importantly, which ketone supplement works best for situation and taste pallet?
It’s also important to know which Exogenous Ketone supplements will actually work. The world of supplementation is full of snake oil salesmen, keen to providing a “miracle cure” to all of your nutritional needs. Because of this, we’re going to break down some of the leading ketone supplements for you, and dissect their benefits, and if any, their weaknesses/drawbacks. It’s important to state that these supplements alone will not allow you to live a Ketogenic lifestyle. Nutritional Ketosis is the base of everything else you try while living the Keto lifestyle; it’s useless to use ketone supplements if you’re loading your face with carbs and sugars, because you’re missing the benefit of the true fat burning experience.
So with that caveat out of the way, let’s move into why you would want to use a Ketone Supplement.
Energy for “on-the-go”
One of the more difficult parts of any diet is applying its demands regularly to food preparation. The Ketogenic Diet requires you to cook with only certain types of ingredients, and eat only certain kind of foods; but what if you wake up late and don’t have time to make your loaded Keto omelet? This is where one of the convenience benefits come into play: by takng a Ketone Supplement on your way to work, you’re providing your body with energy, while also suppressing your appetite to ensure you won’t show up to work jonesing for the office junk food.
The perceived “magic” of ketones to satiate appetite comes from what scientists call an anorexigenic (loss of appetite) effect caused by cholecystokinin (CCK) – a hormone in your GI system – that counteracts ghrelin – also known as the “hunger hormone” – to stop your body from having cravings.
In America, many people choose to start their day with a carb loaded rush, which gets them feeling wired but ALWAYS leaves you feeling drained. All this does is start a cycle of carb gorging, crashing, and regourging. With ketones, this isn’t the case. Our bodies from an evolutionary standard, are wired to use fat efficiently, and to use carbs quickly. Modern times, more specifically modern agriculture, have brought us into the age of the carb heavy diet. But look what it’s done to us! Obesity, diabetes, and nutritional imbalances run rampant in a country that supposedly has an abundance of food!
With Ketone Supplements, you’re side stepping this madness. By waking up in the morning in a fasted state and then supplementing exogenous ketones, you’re giving your body the primal fuel it needs with a modern twist. You’ll go all morning with a prolonged energy that doesn’t fizzle, because you’re appealing to your body’s natural inclinations!
Getting back into ketosis when you fall off the wagon
Although we have the best of intentions, everybody occasionally indulges and falls out of Ketosis. One of the worst experiences can be attempting to get back on the horse nutritionally after you’ve splurged on carbs, most likely making you feel like crap. A solid Ketone Supplement will be a shot in the arm for you, giving your body easily processable ketones to utilize for energy, and bypassing much of the digestive requirements of solid food. This is not to say that you shouldn’t be eating keto while getting back into Ketosis; but you will get there faster by making use of exogenous ketone supplements.
Now that we have some of the major benefits listed, it’s time to check out a few of the Ketone Supplements you can make use of in your keto repertoire.

We reviewed this product in our starter article on exogenous ketones (which you should definitely check out!). Keto//OS was one of the first ketone supplements available to the public, and has since grown their brand to produce not just their original Chocolate Swirl and Orange Dream, but also the new Maui Punch and Kreme flavors.
Pruvit’s blend differs slightly between products, but both contain an amount of caffeine which makes it ideal for a pre workout fuel. There are also caffeine free options if you just want the fuel and not the caffeine. To give you a better idea, here are how each supplement differs in ingredient makeup:
Keto//OS Max Maui Punch – Beta Hydroxybutyrate, Amino Acid Blend (L-taurine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine, L-leucine), Natural Flavors, Inulin (Chicory Root), Potassium Citrate, Stevia, Caffeine, Ascorbic Acid, Butyrate.
Keto//OS Chocolate Swirl – Beta Hydroxybutyrate, Amino Acid Blend (L-taurine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine, L-leucine), Natural Flavors, Inulin (Chicory Root), Potassium Citrate, Stevia, Caffeine, Ascorbic Acid, Butyrate.
Keto//OS Orange Dream – Beta Hydroxybutyrate, MCT Powder, Natural Flavor, Malic Acid, Stevia, Caffeine, Ascorbic Acid.
Keto Kreme – MCT Powder, Coconut Shortening Powder (C8, C10 and C12), Ceylon cinnamon and Stevia.
We’ve previously reviewed KetoCaNa and noted it’s endorsements from the likes of Dr. Dom D’Agostino and Tim Ferriss. Since our last article regarding the product, its manufacturer, Keto Sports, has introduced a new flavor besides the traditional “orange” – “strawberry lemonade.”
KetoCaNa is a powder-based exogenous ketone product that is mixed with water. Each serving (19 grams), provides 11.7 grams of Beta-Hydroxybutyrate, stevia, citric, and natural flavoring.
Keto Force is a liquid ketone supplement that provides the user with a dose of the ketone body Beta-Hydroxybutyrate in the form of sodium and potassium salt (ketone salt). After taking a serving of Keto Force (30 cc), Keto Sports suggests you’ll experience increased levels of blood ketones in approximately 2.5 to 3 hours after ingesting a dose.
Keto Sports also suggests that you take Keto Force with an acidic beverage, due to its pH alkalinity.
This is the first time we’ve featured this product, and we’re very excited, because one of the leading developers is none other than Dr. Dominic D’Agostino: one of the pioneer researchers in the physiological effects of ketosis!
The Kegenix drink mix comes in three different flavors, pomegranate, lemon twist, and wild berry. You can choose a 15 day supply, or a 30 day supply. Each box comes with packets that you simply mix with water. Per Kegenix’s website, each packet contains the following:
- Proprietary Ketosis Supplements
- Vitamins and Mineral Supplements
- Green Tea
InstaKetones comes in only one flavor, Orange Burst, and is a powder-based ketone supplement that can be mixed with 8 ounces of cold water once a day. Each serving of InstaKetones (17.5g) contains 11.7g of BHB (Beta-Hydroxybutyrate), an amino acid blend, calcium, sodium, citric acid, orange extract, and Lou Han Guo (Monk fruit).
This last product differs from the others in that instead of being a supplement you mix with a drink, it instead serves as a spray that you take orally six times a day (per their website). Dr. D’Agostino was also a major guide on developing this product, developing its patented blend of ketones to assist with energy, focus, and avoiding cravings.
These ketone supplements won’t solve all of your Ketogenic Diet needs, but they will be a major asset for you as you adapt your life to the fat burning lifestyle. Being able to get into or stay in ketosis isn’t always easy in our fast paced world, but being able to simply mix or spray of exogenous ketones into your system means not having to make up an emergency meal every time you need fat to burn.
